SMS-Activate shut down: what happened and how to pick a replacement

Check the original closure notice, understand the limits on old balances, and compare refunds, delivery rates and payment rules before funding a replacement.

SMS-Activate is closed. Its original domain now carries a closure notice, rather than a working number service. If you are searching for “SMS Activate down,” the notice describes a shutdown, with the withdrawal window already over.

The next decision has two parts: what evidence you have about your old balance, and what terms you will accept at a replacement. A familiar name or a low advertised number price does not answer either question. Before depositing money, check where refunds go, how long the number stays available, and how much you must leave in a prepaid account.

What the original shutdown notice actually says

The English notice states:

“We have completely ceased our operation since December 22.”

That is the date on the page checked on October 4, 2026. A Wayback Machine copy captured on February 14, 2026 contains the same wording. Neither version gives a year beside December 22. If you have seen December 29 elsewhere, that is not the date in these versions of the original notice; they do not explain the discrepancy.

The page also recommends another service. A recommendation does not establish a continuing account, a transferable balance, or a guarantee that your next verification will work. The notice also gives no reason for closing. Claims about bankruptcy, regulation or a sale need separate evidence.

What happened to the SMS-Activate balance?

The current FAQ says withdrawals were available until February 5 and that nobody remains to process requests. It also lists an April 30 contact cutoff. Those month-and-day dates omit years too. Read them as historical notice text, not an invitation to submit a new withdrawal today.

If you still have an unresolved balance, preserve receipts, transaction references and any correspondence you already received. Do not pay a new service merely because it promises to unlock money held by the old one. Ask for a documented connection and the exact refund procedure before sharing account information.

A replacement purchase and an old withdrawal request are separate transactions. Keep that distinction when reviewing any migration offer: who holds the old money, who would send it back, and what record shows that a transfer actually happened?

Timeline of the original notice: December 22 cessation, February 5 withdrawal cutoff, and October 4, 2026 verification; the notice omits years for the first two dates Dates stated by SMS-Activate, checked October 4, 2026. The February 14 archived page contains the same notice; this diagram preserves its missing years.

Who warns about sites using the SMS-Activate name?

SMS-Activate itself warns in its FAQ that services using its name are scams. That is the former operator's warning, not our investigation of every similarly named domain.

If you search for “sms activate guru reviews” or “like SMS-Activate,” inspect the exact address. A similar spelling, a different domain ending or an old review does not prove continuity. Check whether the review concerns the same domain and whether it predates the shutdown. A review of the former service cannot establish what a different site delivers today.

Use a fresh password for a new service. Before entering payment details, find its terms and support contact from its own website. If someone claims your old login or balance works there, request written evidence of that specific claim. The name alone is insufficient.

A replacement checklist you can use before depositing money

Compare the transaction you need: one permitted sign-up that actually offers SMS verification, for the app and country you have selected. Avoid comparing only homepage slogans or the cheapest number shown anywhere on the site.

Start with these six checks. Payment methods and minimum top-ups both determine whether you can sensibly fund the account.

Check What you should be able to find before paying
No-code refund The trigger, whether it is automatic, and whether money returns to site credit or your payment method.
Delivery rate A rate for the selected option, or a clear statement that no rate is reported.
Number time limit The actual reservation period and what happens when it expires.
Minimum top-up Minimum deposit for each payment method and the credited currency.
Payment methods Supported methods; for crypto, the exact coin and network to send.
Terms and cancellation When you can cancel or change a number, and when a refund stops being available.

If a page leaves one of those questions unanswered, resolve it before topping up. A support reply should describe the rule, not just promise that numbers work. Save the relevant terms or order details so you can compare the promised behavior with the outcome.

Six checks before funding a replacement: automatic balance refunds, delivery rate, number time limit, minimum top-up, payment methods, and clear terms Check the failed-order rules and funding requirements together. A low number price does not tell you how much money must remain in the account.

Read the refund rule before comparing prices

Check two separate rules: refunds for unsuccessful numbers and withdrawals of unused prepaid funds. An automatic refund to site balance lets you try another eligible order. It does not put money back in your wallet or establish a right to withdraw your top-up.

Look for the boundary between an undelivered SMS and an unsuccessful account registration. A code might arrive even if the app later rejects or blocks the account. Ask which event makes an order nonrefundable. This matters more than a general money-back slogan.

Check cancellation too: is there a waiting period? Does changing the number return the first order's price and charge for another at the current price? Read the rule before another attempt.

Treat delivery rates and time limits as separate checks

A displayed delivery rate helps you select an option. It does not guarantee your next SMS or continued access to the app. Ask which app, country and option the percentage describes. Without those details, it tells you little about your purchase.

Likewise, check the reservation period on the actual order. Decide whether you can finish the permitted verification while it is active. Receiving another SMS during that period is different from retrieving the same number next week.

If a seller relies on the “non-VoIP” label, read what a non-VoIP number means and how apps check it. You still need clear refund terms and the app's acceptance rules. Before buying, check whether your verification screen offers SMS or another channel, such as a call, email or in-app code.

How those checks apply to Ativa SMS

Here is a concrete example using the English product page and terms, checked on October 4, 2026:

Item Ativa SMS rule
No SMS The activation price returns to your balance automatically if no SMS arrives before expiry.
Delivery information Each option shows its rate when the provider reports it. Options below 10% appear only if there is no alternative, with a warning.
Reservation Exclusive to you while active, for up to 20 minutes depending on the option. The limit is shown before purchase.
Funding Crypto only: USDT, USDC or Bitcoin. Minimum equivalent to $10, with coin minimums of 25 USDT or 15 USDC. English dollar accounts receive dollar credit.
Cancellation and limits Cancel or change before a code arrives; some options require a two-minute wait. No refund after code delivery, including a later app block.

Ativa SMS order outcome: no SMS before expiry returns the order price to site balance; a delivered code makes the order nonrefundable, even after an app block The automatic return covers an undelivered SMS. It returns site credit; it is not a withdrawal of your top-up to a crypto wallet.

Check the deposit amount, then start with one suitable order

Compare the minimum deposit with your actual need. If you only need one low-cost activation, a larger top-up means leaving unused credit behind. Ativa SMS balances do not expire, but they are personal and cannot be transferred to another account. Its terms also state that crypto payments cannot be reversed. Confirm the coin and network shown in the payment request before sending anything.

For a permitted sign-up that offers SMS, you can check current prices and create an account with your name and email. The service works in your browser, without a SIM card or installation. While the number remains active, you can request another SMS at no extra charge. When it expires, it is released and cannot be retrieved later. These limits should fit your use before you fund the account.

When not to use a temporary number

Use a number you control over time for accounts you must keep or recover:

  • Banking and payment accounts: choose a lasting number for security checks and recovery.
  • Your main email: keep its recovery channel under your control.
  • Your everyday WhatsApp: use your own mobile line if you will need it again.
  • An account you are trying to recover: a new temporary number cannot receive a code addressed to your old number.

Ativa SMS receives SMS only. It cannot receive voice calls, missed-call verification, in-app codes or email. A temporary number also does not authorize you to evade an app's rules or access somebody else's existing account. If a number is already attached to another person's account, change it rather than trying to enter that account. Read the terms of use before purchase; fraud and evading other services' terms are prohibited.
